WHY : THE BLOG

Welcome to WHY.

Immediately I feel the need to answer the unasked question, why WHY? Let's explore. This week I began building this website. A task I have quaked before time and again, never certain of how to go about it, questioning its worth (surely an extention of questioning my own). Begrudgingly I assessed the basic functions of an Artist's website. Exhausted from my internal morass of questioning, I surrendered to the simplest of questions.

Who : are you, Artist?

What : have you created, Artist?

Where : can you be found, Artist?

Why : do you create, Artist?

How : can we work with you, Artist?

Perhaps the wisdom of Alice in Wonderland and A Wrinkle in Time subconsciously inspired this result. The Catepillar asks Alice "who are you?" and the astral guardians Mrs. Who, Mrs. Whatsit, and Mrs. Which made many inquiries of young Meg, Calvin, and Charles Wallace. Through these questions and the nebulous answers found, these protagonists are shaped into conscious beings, able to make choices and wield personal power.

Questions both guide and pursue Artists as we take on the task of translating experience into form, word, and song. Asking the most simple questions can, at times, be the most challenging to answer. This struggle of endless questions and answers that lead to more questions is the tension needed for birthing the art our perilous world needs.

Thus, these question words became the perfect base from which to build a website for an Artist such as myself, who sets upon a course of subconscious exploration, world building, world eating, and conscious collaboration.

And so this is WHY.

Here you will find sporadic experimentation on themes and concepts, waxing poetic, sermons from my own personal soapbox, fumbling and failing, building and burning, and tales of beauty and rubbish. Stay awhile, but come and go as you please. I certainly will!

To live. To know. To die never having really known at all. This is why I create.
